Ambank Group Contributes RM50,000 to Yayasan Raja Zarith Sofiah Negeri Johor for the purchase of tablets for B40 students.

AmBank Group has contributed RM50,000 to Yayasan Raja Zarith Sofiah Negeri Johor (YRZSNJ) for the purchase of 55 tablets bundled with one (1) year internet data subscription for underprivileged students in the State of Johor to facilitate home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) sessions.

Tan Sri Azman Hashim, Chairman, AmBank Group said “In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we, at AmBank Group have reached out to provide financial and healthcare assistance for hospitals and those who were severely affected due to loss of jobs and reduced monthly disposable income. The closure of schools has also posed unprecedented challenges for teachers, students and even parents particularly when normal classrooms studies have all been conducted virtually at home.

Hence, we hope our contribution in collaboration with Yayasan Raja Sofiah Foundation Negeri Johor will be able to provide the much-needed digital access and invariably help minimise the students’ education disruption. In this regard, I would like to commend Her Majesty’s efforts in helping the underserved and bridge the gap caused by the pandemic,” Tan Sri Azman added.

“As a Johor Royal foundation chaired by Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, Permaisuri Johor, we are committed to continuously assist students and their families because we firmly believe in every child’s right for education, especially during these challenging times, where having access to tools and technologies is essential to continue an educational journey. We would like to thank AmBank Group via its Foundation whom generously helped us achieve this goal in such a swift timeframe.” said Hishamuddin Abdul Rahim, Chief Executive Officer of YRZSNJ.

The tablets purchased were distributed to 55 needy students from 12 primary schools in Johor. This initiative is also in line with Financial Industry Collective Outreach (FINCO) Disaster Resilience Pillar whereby students and communities who receive timely and appropriate advice and support are more likely to improve resilience and develop the capacity for self-recovery.

Dato’ Sulaiman Mohd Tahir, Group Chief Executive Officer, AmBank Group added, “We hope this contribution can benefit students from the B40 families to ease the online learning participation during the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative aims to bridge the learning gap and alleviate home based virtual learning challenges for the lower income groups.”

As a responsible and caring Financial Institution, AmBank Group will continue to support FINCO in its collaborative initiative to provide underprivileged children and youth with the guidance and education tools they need to achieve their goals.
