JomStudi Connects more than 1,4000 Students to Digital Learning

JomStudi

Over 1,400 students nationwide were the first to gain access to and experience JomStudi, a new digital learning hub that aggregates school syllabus-based content to make digital learning more available to underserved communities where access to tuition centres and learning resources may be limited.

Hosted and managed by Digi, JomStudi provides students with easy access to quality education content that follows the syllabus format set by the Ministry of Education. The learning resources use Astro Tutor TV’s interactive rich video based resources and Media Prima’s FullAMark, an online learning portal that enables students to access revision exercises based on the subjects of Year 5, UPSR, PT3 and SPM.

Additionally, students will have access to digital content from the #mydigitalmaker movement such as modules on coding, programming and other computational thinking competencies. An internet safety and resilience module called Digi World will also be made available on JomStudi to ensure the students are aware of the importance of staying safe online. Other educational resources on technology, digital literacy as well as informal skills learning will also be made available on JomStudi through partnerships and other content providers in the near future.

Launched today at the Internet Centre in Kampung Kering, Labu by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, JomStudi is jointly conceptualised by Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad (“Astro”), Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (“Digi”), and Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima”) and is supported by the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).  He was accompanied by Al-Ishsal Ishak, MCMC’s Chairman; Hj Ismail Bin Ahmad, State Assemblyman of Labu; Henry Tan, Astro’s Chief Executive Officer; Albern Murty, Digi’s Chief Executive Officer; Datuk Kamal Khalid, Media Prima’s Group Managing Director; and Sumitra Nair, MDEC’s Vice President of Talent & Digital Entrepreneurship.

YB Tuan Gobind lauded the collaboration, stating that closer public-private sector partnerships were critical to bridge the digital divide and change the way learning is experienced. It is important for the younger generation to start building digital skills and ensure that they have an appetite for lifelong learning to thrive in the future workforce.

Features to boost self-learning

JomStudi promotes self-learning and develops technological and digital skills. To motivate students, JomStudi incorporates gamification elements to make the learning experience fun. This includes reward badges for completing an assignment as well as a personalised dashboard on which they can track their own progress and development.

Following the launch, Digi is offering its customers free access during the JomBelajar time zone from 2.00pm-8.00pm daily.

JomStudi received positive feedback from students and the Internet Centre managers during its one-month pilot phase aimed at making the learning experience as engaging and user-friendly as possible. Here are some feedback from them about JomStudi:

Nurul Awathif Nordin, 11 (Bukit Payong Internet Centre)

“I find JomStudi fun and easy to use because I am able to study using the examination exercises and useful notes available on the platform. It also helps me keep track of my studies. I only use JomStudi whenever I visit the internet centre, since I do not have a laptop or Internet access at home.”

Siti Nur Syahirah binti Mohamad, 17 (Tendong Internet Centre)

“I would definitely recommend JomStudi to my friends because I like that it allows me to study anywhere using my phone or tablet. The videos make the content easier to understand and I like how the platform helped me learn more on top of my lessons in school. I also like that I can watch the lessons together with my friends and we can discuss and exchange notes after that.”

Muhammad Asyraf Amanaullah Bin Safar, 17 (Taman Sentosa Internet Centre)

“I like using JomStudi because digital learning allows me to keep up with the latest digital and technology trends. I can focus and understand better while watching the video-based lessons, and I like the additional content such as the robotics videos. The subjects featured in JomStudi complements what I have learned in school and I like that I can do my revision wherever I go.”

Azuan Shaari (Manager, Tendong Internet Centre)

“After assisting the students to learn on how to use JomStudi, I can see that they enjoy using the platform to study. Some of them told me that the content helped them to better understand the subject. Personally, I strongly feel that learning digitally is a great way for these students to revise their lessons as the platform allows them to study in a fun and interactive way. It also allows parents to be aware of what their children are learning, enabling them to guide their children with the lessons as the resources are easily accessible no matter where they are.”
